Licensed Practical Nurses participate in the nursing process to provide quality person served focused care, under the direction of RNs, physicians and other health team members. Implements the philosophy and core values of Communitas. Ensures the physical and emotional needs of persons served are met within a safe, secure, and homelike environment. Advocates on behalf of each person served to ensure all their health needs are addressed.

Here's what you can expect:
Licensed Practical Nurses are expected to work according to pre-determined schedules as per program needs. Each schedule will have day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts unless otherwise stated.
Specific Duties
- Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments and documented procedures including emergency/crisis intervention, as per provincial regulations and facility policies and procedures
- Participates in meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care and implementation of health care plan goals and objectives
- Assists with activities such as eating, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting. Identifies potential problems and reports any difficulties
- Participates as a member of the medication safety committee
- Provides support and direction to RSW’s as needed
- Uses established infection control techniques as required to prevent and control the spread of infection
- Completes daily communication book, journals, and other documentation such as charts and incident reports in accordance with established policy
- Keeps nursing equipment and designated work areas clean and tidy
- Participates in the implementation of a recreational program designed to meet the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the individuals
- Establishes and maintains written protocols as required for the care of specific individuals
- Communicates effectively with other support staff to ensure continuity in activities and routines. Ensures that health care information is effectively communicated to the team
- Establishes and maintains good interpersonal relationships with co-workers and individuals supported
- Participates in training/orientation of new staff
- Maintains the confidentiality of individuals’ files
- Participates in all program staff meetings
- Attends work related in-services as required by Communitas
- Other duties as assigned (e.g., administrative duties, extra cleaning, etc.).
- Graduation from approved Practical Nursing Program
- Current registration with BCCN&M
- Experience with Tracheostomy and tube feeding is an asset

- Excellent teamwork skills, ability to maintain honest, direct and respectful relationships
- Ability to receive direction as well as being able to work independently without supervision
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position
- Ability to physically and emotionally carry out the duties of the position
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Possession of Food Safe Level 1 Certificate or equivalent
- Current CPR “C” Certificate

- LPN’s and RN’s who work Full-time will be reimbursed for 100% of their registration fees. LPN’s and RN’s who work part time will receive a pro-rated reimbursement based on their number of permanent hours/week.
- Salary: $40.52 per hour
